battering

any tips to battering and haggling in thailanld bangkok and pattaya thanks anyone

battering

Battering? I hope not LOL. Bartering is to exchange one set of goods or service

for another and few do that. Haggling or bargaining is normal in markets, stalls, small shops but not in departments stores, 7-11, Tesco Lotus, Carrefour etc. Don%26#39;t expect 50-80% off anything. 10-40% is possible depending on what it is you%26#39;re buying.

MBK mall has a mixture of stalls and shops where you can bargain, and other shops and department store where you can%26#39;t bargain.

battering

yes sorry batering spelling mistake lol ;;; thanks for the info so dont expect it way to cheap thanks

i cant get it right bartering finally yes i would like to know how much to start from and maybe when i think its a fair price thanks

When you think its fair is when you are happy with the price. You could start by offering half with a big smile. Keep the bargaining light, friendly and fun, don%26#39;t be serious. I like to joke that I can%26#39;t afford it because I have to take care of my poor old white haired grandmother - makes them laugh!

Its common for people to say bartering but like the first poster says its unlikely you%26#39;ll be exchanging goods.

The way i haggle i generally offer 50% with a smile, they laugh and shake there heads and say ';nooooo i have to eat'; and then pull out the calculator and bounce it back up by 40%. I then laugh and say %26#39;but i have to eat too%26#39; and offer about 60% of the price as my final offer. They either take it or i start walking and generally they call me back and agree. It%26#39;s all done in fun and with a smile. It depends how much you want it, what the item is, who you are dealing with, etc etc. At the end of the day the item is no doubt quite cheap anyway and these people don%26#39;t earn that much so i always think to myself that if i pay a few extra baht at least the money goes to people who need it.

yes thanks for the replies sounds good cant wait to try it out yes the items are cheap and they dont get much ,. so will be mindful of that %26#39;%26#39;%26#39;%26#39;

in some market stalls you will be qouted double the price ,other places you will be lucky to get much discount at all .ask yourself what you are happy to pay for something and stick with that
