Reliable Tailor and Prices

Hi

I am currently in Phuket and heading to Patong for a few days tomorrow. I am looking to get a couple of dresses made (cocktail style) and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good tailor, as well as give me an approximate price guide on a lined silk dress. We will be staying at the northern end at Swiss Palms, so preferably somewhere close to there.

Looking forward to your replies

Sara

Reliable Tailor and Prices

*bump*

Am actually more interested in what the going price would be for this style of dress. Have no idea what the standard price would be.

    Can you recommend a really good tailor to get a man%26#39;s suit made, we visited Thailand before and the suit was awful Koh Samui area 10 years ago so would like someone that has been used with a good reputation?

    Thank you.

    Transfers from Laem Chabang Port to Bangkok airport

    We are arriving into Laem Chabang Port on 13th March 2010 on Diamond Princess, I have read the comments re transfers to the airport on the forum but they differ. Is there a FREE bus transfer arranged by the ship or should we pay for transfers before we leave Australia? Our travel agent is quoting $62 per person which seems a lot.. As there are 4 of us plus luggage we would need 2 taxis, a mini bus or shared transfer by bus.

    Kind regards, Maureen

    Surely Princess Cruise line can answer this question? Why not email them? The agent rate per person is higher than the rate for a taxi for 4 people. Unfortunately metered taxis have little space for heavy bags. You could get quotes from http://www.imagelimo.com, or contact oat747@yahoo.com and ask for a quote (different company)

    You can pre-arrange a mini-bus transfer beforehand for around AU$100.

    Image limo for one offer a 10 seater for a fraction over that;

    Bangkok Limo advertise a price closer to $70 for a minivan that holds up to 8 people;

    Here%26#39;s a recent forum thread on the topic as well;

    AU$62/pax is an insane amount of money. You should be able to get a transer for all four of you for the same price or less. A taxi, depending upon how well you bargain, should cost you between 1000 and 2000THB. Their won%26#39;t be room for a lot of luggage but I assume you can leave most of it on the ship. If you have any problems, contact me directly and I can help you find a transfer via mini van for much, much less than AUS$240.

    Hi I am doing the same cruise in April. i was in Thailand in January this year and went down to the same area for AU$50 in a taxi

    Hope you have a great time

    Thankyou for the info. I%26#39;m a bit concerned as there are 4 of us plus luggage, so we will need a van %26amp; I don%26#39;t know if there would be any at the port (maybe only taxis) As I haven%26#39;t been to the port B4 it%26#39;s a bit hard to know which way to go, (ie. book or hope there will be vans waiting) I don%26#39;t want to book %26amp; pay for a van on line, in case they don%26#39;t turn up on the day %26amp; I%26#39;m out of pocket %26amp; no transfer.

    We used to get transfers in Bali prepaid through travel agent until we found a much cheaper option at airport to pay for a taxi/s when we got there., but I presume that would be different to a cruise port.

    Kind regards, Maureen.

    Have you seen the Aussie Embassy%26#39;s ';do not travel'; advisory for the southern region?

    smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/…Thailand

    ';We strongly advise you not to travel at this time to the southern provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Songkhla or overland to and from the Malaysian border through these provinces due to high levels of ongoing violence in these regions, including terrorist attacks and bombings resulting in deaths and injuries on an almost daily basis. Since January 2004, more than 3,400 people have reportedly been killed and many more injured, including a number of foreigners. If you are in these provinces, you should consider leaving.';

  • Quiet Beautiful Krabi

    I wanted to write a review of Tha Lane Bay Villas but because they are a one off place they don%26#39;t fit the criteria but I really feel they do such a wonderful job in terms of service and the place is so beautiful some of your readers might like to know about it. I have stayed at Thalanebay twice, we went back this year because we loved it so much. You have to make a money transfer prior to the stay but everything is totally above board although I have to say I felt anxious about it the first time. Mon and Rik who manage the place are such sweeties and do everything they can to ensure you have the best holiday. It is like staying in a fully serviced private hotel with a view to die for. The pool is beautiful, clean and set against the backdrop that launched a million photographs from my gang! It over looks the sea and islands but isn%26#39;t on a beach but you can get to beaches easily enough by taxi. Mon and Rik will do, find and arrange anything you want, they will be your guides, your cooks, your child-minders and your friends. We treated them with great respect and affection but we could see that some people might take advantage of their kindness, generosity and willingness, it was something we never did.

    Mon is a fabulous cook and we mostly ate in in the evenings, we often spent days at the villa because it is so lovely. It is isolated and costs about 2400 Baht to hire a taxi to take you out and about for the day and a bit more for a longtail boat which can sometimes take you to the islands from the villa if the tides are right or from the local pier a couple of miles away. The transport if you want to go places is a significant add on but between 8 it wasn%26#39;t so bad.

    We had one holiday with our friends all in our 50%26#39;s and another holiday with our kids and their friends who are in their 20%26#39;s, we all loved it and often wish ourselves back there! Our kids went off for a couple of nights in Phi Phi and although they had a fun time where it was a bit livelier they were really glad to get back to Tha lane.

    I can not recommend the place highly enough, we loved it but it might not be everyones cup of tea as it is quiet and remote. We loved the peace of the place and if we fancied a bit of fun we all piled in a taxi and had a day or a night in Ao Nang or Krabi or on the islands.

    The place is every bit as lovely as it looks in the pictures if not better and Rik and Mon make it a total joy. I feel I have been so spoiled by the experience I%26#39;m not sure I want to go anywhere else.

    Where can I buy pandora charms have you seen them anywhere?

    Hi, yes I know there have previously been postings relating to this subject, yet there has not yet been any definitive locations on where to purchase.

    I am only after the little silver charms and braclets, fake ok to.

    Please if you have come accross these can you let me know where I can purchase as I would like to buy quite a few.

    Also would it be worth my while to get a local guide who may know the factories so I can buy there.

    Thanks in advance to all replies.

    Where can I buy pandora charms have you seen them anywhere?

    Although I may not have the most discerning eye when it comes to such things, I believe there is stuff very similar to this all over Sampeng, Chinatown.

    Sampeng is well known to any Bangkok taxi driver.

    Where can I buy pandora charms have you seen them anywhere?

    thank you.

    Is there a local guide who may be able to assist me in purchasing these charms, bracelet etc from a supplier. Can anyone reccommend a trustworthy guide.

    thanks

    For the most part, local suppliers are places like Sampeng. Although some will sell by piece, most prefer wholesale lots. Few retailers deal ';factory direct';.

    Most factory operators wouldn%26#39;t let anyone within a kilometer of their operation, let alone a foreigner. And, most local guides will only be familiar with the kind of factories that pay them to bring foreigners.

    Here is something you could check out. It will have factories that are soliciting business:

    http://www.hellothai.com/eng/fd01e.htm

    There is also the Thai Embassy. Beyond visas, most embassies are little more than business facilitators. I know that the Los Angeles embassy has a huge business section. You might check if you have one nearby.

    I work for a charm bead producer and can tell you that what you are asking is not possible. Do you really think a producer would be interested in selling 10 charm beads when they produce 10,000 per day?

    Hey i bought some Pandora charms at MBK. Im not sure if they are real or not as they are not stamped...however the lady told us that they come from the Pandora factory but that they cannot be stamped (stolen?! Don’t know haha) however they really were IDENTICAL to some real ones my sisters and i have. They havent faded or tarnished ín 9 months so who knows...

    Anyway i got them from a lady down the end of MBK, i think it was level 2. Its the level where you can access Pathumwan from the second level lobby. She is not openly displaying them but if you ask for them she will discretely bring them out. She was the second one on the right...80-300 baht per charm... good luck!

    I can confidently tell you that they can%26#39;t be real at that price. They%26#39;re probably copies from China.

    Obviously!

    Pandora charms are made under licence in Thailand ....I have been to the factory in Chiang Mai and they were definately the real thing

    yes the lady told us they were from chiang mai too. Obviously i am not vouching for real charms, just saying they were good quality...
