Andaman Seaview or Kantary Bay?

Hi all, my wife %26amp; i are planning to visit Phuket for 7 days in November 2009.

We have shortlisted 2 hotels - Andaman Seaview %26amp; Kantary Bay.

The cost is more or less the same for the 2 hotels.

We want to stay away from the noise %26amp; hustle bustle of Patong.

We are planning to go for a couple of trips - Phi Phi Island tour, John Gray%26#39;s Sea Canoe etc.

I%26#39;m not to keen on travelling in taxis.

Most day trips offer a free pick-up %26amp; drop from Hotels in Patong %26amp; Karon area.

Will staying @ Kantary Bay make it incovenient to do these day trips?

Anyone who has stayed @ either of the two or @ both hotels pls do share youe experience(s).

Thanks a ton :-)

Andaman Seaview or Kantary Bay?

Hi

Since you are not too keen on travelling by taxi, I recommend the Andaman Seaview in Karon because of the location. The Kantary is located in Cape Panwa which is a little further to travel for most of the tours.

Either way most of the tours do offer transfers to and from from both hotels.

Chantal.

Andaman Seaview or Kantary Bay?

Hi

My only experience is Cape Panwa which is the sister hotel to Kantary Bay. You can use all the facilities of CP whilst staying at Kantary... private beach, restuarants, pools etc.(there is a shuttle bus that runs frequently over the hill between the 2 hotels) I loved the peace and quiet of the area. Its sort of a village type atmosphere. My only experience of Karon is driving past it, definately a bigger place with more choice of cafes, shops etc and closer to places like Patong.

We have been on day trips from Panwa and were always collected and dropped off with no problems. This included Phi Phi island and Captain Mark%26#39;s sail tours. The hotel also provides mini buses at set times to Phuket town and Patong at reasonable prices so we found there was no need to deal with taxis.

Hi Georgette if you are still reading these posts would you mind letting me know if there are any shops in walking distance from Kantary bay (or Cape Panwa)? By shops I mean jewellery, clothes etc? Am thinking of booking Kantary Bay because it sounds so wonderful on the reviews and the rate is so good when compared to Karon Hotels. but am a bit concerned about it being so far away from everything (not that we want the full-on experience of Patong) but would be nice if we could walk to a little tourist area?

Thanks and regards

TM

Are you booking through a travel agent? Just wondering as you said they were both the same price. As I have been looking at these two for a holiday in February and their websites quote: Andaman 4800 per night (twin room) and Kantary 2600 for a studio per night (twin share) - almost half of Andaman which is a fabulous rate I think! But am concerned that it is a bit far away from everything.

Cheers.

It seems very rare that a resort%26#39;s website will offer cheaper rates than can be found via a booking service such as Rates To Go. Note that Kantary Bay Resort is an exception to this rule. If you choose the Earlybird rates on their website you can save 20%, bringing the studio room rate down to 2080 baht per night :

In February 2010, Andaman Seaview%26#39;s prices are pretty well double Kantary Bay%26#39;s rates regardless of which method you choose to make a booking.

Thanks for the clarification. I think I will book Kantary Bay - all reviews are great and looks lovely and what a price! Regards.

Please post a trip report if you go to Kantary Bay. We are going on the 13th December , also based on the very good reviews and look forward to any new reviews.

Hi TM

There is a shop that sells everything from souveniers to clothes, though not a huge range of clothes and a few shops on the hill sell beach type clothes and T shirts, there is a small supermarket plus massage shops and several tailors and some nice small restaurants thats about it. But a trip into Phuket Town is easy in the hotel mini vans. They run at 2 or 3 times a day and you get about 3 hours to wander and shop, its about a 15 minute drive and from memory was 250 baht? Lots of shops in Phuket town from a dept store to all the small shops along the streets.
