Hi, I%26#39;m looking at staying at the Centrara near Ao nang. Hotel reviews are pretty good but cant get any info about Ao nang itself. Any one been there and could describe it? Also how easy is it to get to from the Centara? Any other recommendations would be appreciated. I want to be on the beach but within walking distance or short taxi ride of some bars/restaurents.
Ao Nang?Ao Nang is the hub for the Krabi area. Plenty of bars and restaurants and a great stepping off point for day trips, either by longtail boats to the islands or on land.
We have some pics, maps and stories here www.bobandjanette.com which may help. Also on the Phuket tip page there are some photos of Krabi billboards showing prices for taxis, tours and day trips that may help.
Happy %26amp; safe travels
Bob
Ao Nang?Personally, I wouldn%26#39;t believe all of the reviews on the Centara Grand Beach Resort in Krabi...
Ao Nang is a small (in comparison to Patong, Phuket) town located on Ao Nang Beach with distant views of the Hong Islands. Plenty of resturants, bars and shops. Also a good palce to base yourself to explore the nearby beaches and Islands.
If you are after a 5 star resort, try the Amari Vogue or The Tubkaak Resorts located about 20min north of Ao Nang by car. both resorts are located on the secluded and far superior Tub Kaek Beach, and amazing views of the Hong Islands. Only problem with these resorts is that they are a 20min drive away from Ao Nang, and there are no local restaurants within walking distance (apart from each other). Both resorts offer complimentary shuttles into Ao Nang, but it will cost you 500baht via taxi to get back.
We stayed at the Amari Vogue and the place is simply amazing - read our review and check out the pics. Far better than the Centara (particulalry when it comes to service) and better value too.
10min away from Ao Nang is also ther Sofitel, shaeraton or Nakamanda resorts all of which I would consider better than the Centara.
Your choice in the end...either way you qwill love Krabi province - it is an amazingly beautiful part of Thailand.
