Gay guy in Thailand - travelling solo, any suggestions?

Hey everyone,

Traveling alone through Thailand for 40 days starting in Bangkok, heading north, then back to the islands. I am staying in Silom area when I arrive for 4 days (nov 10 - 14)

Any suggestions on what to do / where to go?

Looking for nightlife and exploring the surrounding areas!

DJ Station in Silom soi 2 is probably a good starting point for you, with a mixed crowd (short walk from BTS station Sala Daeng).

For dedicated gay clubs, head a little further down Silom road to Silom soi 4.

The police used to be quite strict on checking for age... I%26#39;m presuming you%26#39;re over 20 - but have a copy of your passport with you (at least) just in case.

Remember to guard your drink, and if you leave it unattended discard it.

Assume any offer to share/partake in any drugs is a set-up, and refrain.

Thanks for the advice!! Yes I am 24, and no I don%26#39;t do drugs :) Is the gay community pretty local or lots of tourist? is it relatively open and friendly there?

Not gay myself but been to many gay bars and clubs with gay friends in Bangkok, it is mixed local and tourist in most and I have found theALL real friendly and tolerant. Respect for people is the big thing in Thailand if you show respect you get respect.

The Thai society is more than tolerant in regards to gays,in fact I%26#39;d go as far as to say it plays in big part here(t.v. soaps one example)Was out with a thai friend yesterday and her lady boy friend was with us .No prob%26#39;s and I%26#39;m not gay niether ,no big deal!

have you used the search engine ? type in the word ..gay..into the little box next to the bangkok forum/ thailand forum box ,pages of info for gay travellers in thailand..dont forget you will need a visa for 40 days unless you plan on getting an extension

Going to be in bangkok begining of Nov - but was quite concerned to hear a couple of you mentioning possibility of drinks being laced with something .

How common is this then ??

not possible if you keep the drink in your hand .not that common but it does happen and expect to lose everything if it does .just dont drink from a glass that has left your sight
