Hi All
I%26#39;m off to Phuket, staying in Patong next week and am looking for a good tip on a dressmaker who%26#39;d be able to whip me up something fabulous off a picture for a friends wedding. Any info on good tailors and an idea on costs would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much
Carly
Dressmakers near PatongHi Carly, there are heaps of tailors/dressmakers in Patong nearly every second shop....I%26#39;m not sure about prices but they would be relatively cheaper than in Australia to make something....perhaps another TA member could recommend one. My husband had a full length lined cashmere coat and another casual jacket made by the tailor at Thara Patong Resort. I can%26#39;t remember the exact price but it was cheaper than if he had it made here in Melbourne...There are so many beautiful dresses in Thailand, I%26#39;m sure you will find something..Linda
Dressmakers near PatongThanks so much for your reply! Much appreciated. I do remember seeing many tailors there last time so hopefully I stumble across a good one.
Have a lovely day!
:)
Hey mate. There is one tailor I can recommend. A friend of mine had a suit made by him last time we stayed in Patong. He was very happy with the result. The place is located right in Patong Resort Hotel, 208 Rat-U-Thit Road. The name: ';W. Boss International Tailor';.
You are looking at about 3500 Baht for a suit plus shirts. Don%26#39;t forget to bargain, otherwise you will be ripped off!

I suggest you try SILHOUETTE, situated in Soi Post Office, Patong, just up from the beachfront road (in the same Soi as the popular S%26amp;G and Sabai Sabai restaurants).
Silhouette is owned and run by a lovely Thai couple, Somsak Bumroongwong and his wife Vasita. Somsak and Vasita are both graduates of the School Of Fashion in Bangkok, They stock top quality fabrics which they personally go to Bangkok to buy and - most importantly - they will make what you want, unlike many of the others who will make what they think you should have.
That is very important, and particularly so for ladieswear. As my wife - who was in the fashion trade for 50 year+ - and her close friends say ';Vasita makes the difference.';
Somsak and Vasita take their time, and suggest things. Go early in your stay, that way you can have fittings at leisure! Between May to September, the shop is usually only open from 6pm to 11pm.
Silhouette is a bit more expensive that most of the others but believe me it is worth it. Their men%26#39;s jackets are stunningly tailored and lined and I am still wearing trousers purchased 6 years ago!
NOTE: from an posting I made HERE just a couple of hours ago, that S%26amp;S are shifting their shop in October.
This is just one of the places covered in a tip sheet that a friend and I have put together over the 15 years or so we have been visiting Patong.
It is a sort of %26#39;quick start%26#39; for your holiday and was originally prepared for local friends and acquaintances in our home town of Dunedin, New Zealand, intending to holiday in Phuket.
It suggests places to go, places to eat and, of course, places to shop as well as information on things like drinking water, currency exchange and so on! Something to carry with you and totally non-commercial.
If you would like a copy, just email me: rfdunedin@ymail.com.
And yes, it is available to any TA member who asks. Just send me that email.
Enjoy your holiday!
