Hello
I%26#39;ve been reading the Australian governments travel advice and it advises against travelling to the golden triangle, especially the burmese boarder.
We%26#39;re planning on staying at Four Seasons tented safari during our honeymoon, which is right next to the Burmese and Loas border.
We%26#39;re really keen to go but wondered if anyone has any advice on this?
Much appreciated.
Safety question
It unlikely that the Four Season would operate in an unsafe area, the Golden Triangle is a big tourist trap and safety should not be much of an issue. Other areas along the Burmese border are definitely unsafe.

I think you can rest easy. The Four Seasons is located near the border, but no closer than the 5 star resort Anantara, where we have stayed several times. I%26#39;ve crossed the border to Burma several times and last time went about 40 minutes into the countryside. I%26#39;ve never had a problem. There are border skirmishes from time to time, although we have never encountered any of them. If you have a local guide take you across the border, then they will know the current conditions. As for staying in the Four Seasons or that area, I can%26#39;t imagine you are going to have any issues. The U.S. embassy posts the exact same ';guidance'; but we have known many people who have stayed in the Golden Triangle and crossed into Burma with no issues. I even took my 16 year old niece with me the last time.
Safe Travels and have a great honeymoon. Let us know how your trip goes upon your return.

Dragonc, could you please give a bit of an idea of what areas are in the ';unsafe'; category as I am hiring a car in November and was planning on visiting the Golden Triangle but also going as far as Mae Hong Son time permitting. Is the KMT museum in an unsafe area ?
Thanx
