Can anyone tell me if it is a good idea to have my glasses subcription filled when in Phuket. Are they much cheaper than home (Australia). Do you just take your script with you and where is a good place to go. Will also be in Bangkok and Chaing Mai would either of these places be better. Also how long do they take to fill the script....thankx

Hi, there are lots of optical places in Patong...plenty to choose from. I took my script and they also check my existing glasses to make sure they were correct. I got great Elle glasses with transitional lenses for around $120 which is certainly cheaper than Aust. Lenses themselves are over $120. Dont forget to bargain because they first or seond price certainly isn%26#39;t the lowest. They glasses were ready in 1 hr...wow it takes about 4 to 5 days to get them at home.
Happy shopping \
Cheers

Hi favnet
If you have good health insurance it is probably just as cheap in Aus and you have the peace of mind of warranties etc. If you don%26#39;t have insurance, though, it is much cheaper in Asia.

I have bought all my glasses in Asia for years and I have never had any problems. However, I dont really like the way some of them use a machine to test your eyes, I do not know anything about eye testing but it does not seem quite right to me and I am not convinced of the qualifications of the women testing.
So, I get my eyes tested in Australia and use the prescription to buy them here. I always get my contact lenses here as well, they are a fraction of the cost compared to Australia %26amp; England. You will find prices differ alot from place to place so bargain for contacts and glasses. They are always very quick.
