We are having three days in bangkok, before heading to Phuket where we have booked three nights at the Holiday Inn.
That leaves us with a further 7 nights free ..... any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome ....
Thanks guys ...
as for accomodation , we are able to afford decent hotels and dont neccessarily have to watch the pennys !
Phuket .....then where ...?
Hi Biff,
We experienced first time last July/August the most incredible holiday at Khao Lak....About 2 hours drive north of Patong.....
We stayed at the Palm Galleria in Cape Pakarang and then at Nang Thong Bay resort in Bang La On.....Fabulous...!!!....NTBR is on the beach and costs 1500 baht for beach bungalow in low season and 3000 baht in high season....
Altho%26#39; Khao Lak is quiet, you will not find any timeshare touts, bargirls, tuk tuk%26#39;s,pesky tailors, restaurants beckoning you to eat at their place, you buy you buy...!!??....None of that stuff...!!
However,Khao Lak is not so quiet that you will be bored...On the contrary, this place has all the bars and restaurants and shops you will ever need.....tho%26#39; shopping is not the highest priority....
As Molly says do yourself a favour and check out Khao Lak online....
We have discovered how nice this place is and are returning to Khao Lak next year....!!....
Phuket .....then where ...?
Have you looked at Chiang Mai in the north for a contrast... Love it .. very relaxed and laid back and heaps to see and do that is different to Bangkok and Phuket,
I havent been to Khao Lak yet but it is on my list to do next trip as well as Koh Sok National Park.. :)
Happy Travels
Chelle
All good recommendations - Chiang Mai, Khao Lak are lovely.
If you want to stay in Phuket you could always move to a different part of the island, it would cut down on your traveling time, especially if you do not want to fly anywhere again (for instance Chang Mai can be 2 separate flights). Many people like to stay in Patong for a couple of days, then move to the quieter areas of Kata, Karon, or even quieter places like Nai Yang (up near the airport area).
Would recommend organising some day tours though, visit some nearby islands, there is plenty to do in Phuket to keep you busy. Koh Lanta is lovely, and you also have Phi Phi, Phang Nga Bay, Similan Islands, or do a day tour of the cultural/historical sites.
Enjoy your trip!
Elise
