ASEAN Security Begins Next Week!

Just a quick word of warning! The Thai Government has announced it will be invoking The Internal Security act in Hua Hin and Cha Am,commencing on 12th October-27th October. This is in relation to the Phuket ASEAN conference which was halted due to protests and has subsequently been rescheduled in Hua Hin on 23rd October. There will be disruption in and around the area and locals and farangs living there have already had to apply for special car stickers and register .What this means for out of towners(like myself)who are planning on being down there next week ..who knows, but do carry I.D. around with you as I believe every troop and his dog will be in town!

While there will be heavy security, and the immediate area around the meeting venue is likely to be closed off, it won%26#39;t have too much effect on tourists.

ASEAN Security Begins Next Week!

There will be road blocks on main arterial roads and there is limited mobility already around the railway station my mate says.As long as I can grab a beer ,they can solve the worlds problems and leave me in peace!

We live here and are intending to escape for one week of it. It%26#39;ll probably affect driving in and out of town rather than walking around the town and most tourists will probably only notice a strong police presence rather than be affected by it. Those staying around/nearby to the Dusit will probably be most affected - if at all and if being driven by taxi/tour guides will hopefully sail past us poor residents.

Word is the Thai government is still smarting after the pantomime in Phuket and are taking no chances with this after the last embarrassment!

We were in Hua Hin this February/March whilst the ASEAN summit was on and this did not cause us any problems - just a minor inconvenience of having to walk through a metal detector.

However, my brother-in-law and his wife were staying for 5 days (due to leave today) but was so fed up with ';all the security'; and the fact that they had to wear guest badges in the hotel (which we didn%26#39;t) he has abandonded the last 2 night and gone back to Bangkok.

We%26#39;ll find out the details when he%26#39;s back in the UK - but it%26#39;s extremely dissapointing.

Sorry to hear that as I%26#39;ve just got back into Bangkok from there today and had minimal %26#39;interference%26#39; from troops, but the Hilton and Sofitel guests did I believe.Apart from one lane kept free on each side of the road and umpteen million orange cones every where, the troops seem to be very inconspicuous even on the beach.Any how sorry if they spoilt is holiday as it is such a nice place normally!
