We are staying in Khao Lak during the first week in March and hoping to see the turtle release. Has anyone any info re the 2010 date.... or if too early, does anyone know when are the dates for this likely to be firmed up?

It is usually the first week in March, starting with the release of the turtles fromThai mueang beach at about 2.30pm on Monday, the first day of a week long celebration. The releease is preceeded by a procession of wonderfully dressed locals that culminates with the Turtle release on the beach in the middle of the show grounds and is followed by several televised Thai boxing bouts.
A great day out but a visit on any day if you can%26#39;t make the opening one is well worth it to browse the stalls and sample the wonderful food on offer (even the deep fried insects!?!)

Thanks Alan - I%26#39;m guessing therelease itself is likely to be 1st march or possibly 8th ?
I would have thought the 1st but I will confirm that when we return to KL in a few weeks time and post on here.
