Hi,
Was in Khao Lak 2 years ago and we loved it. This time we%26#39;re staying at Khaolak Orchid Beach Resort. So my question is anyone know how mutch they charge for the wifi acces?
Is there any new supermarkeds around last time I remembered it was one but they always seemed to be sold out on different items. Travelling with two young girls and the youngest one would require some baby food and nappies and also is there any shops that sells any decent wine?
Cheers
Jason
Khaolak Orchid Beach Resort Wifi and supermarket in Khao Lak
Sorry, can%26#39;t tell you hows much wi-fi is but there are plenty of internet cafe/places in both Bang Niang and Bang La on which offer high speed internet at very cheap prices.
As for supermarkets there are now 7 711 supermarkets in and around Khao Lak, the nearest to the Orchid being on the highway just in frot of the bus station at Khuk Khak. However, by far the biggest, best and widest range of items (someimes sold out) is the Nang Thong Supermarket in Bang La On which is also the best stockist of decent wine. There are now in Bang La On though a few more chemist/pharmacies which stock baby food and nappies, which, of course, are stocked at the Nang Thong Supermarket too! :)
Khaolak Orchid Beach Resort Wifi and supermarket in Khao Lak
Hi
In most of the hotel resorts that i have been to wifi is free in some public areas like the lounge. You could email the resort to check on this.
What I heard that Orchid Resort is in talk with the internet company to lower the fee of wifi internet, but there is no clear answer yet.
However, if you stay in the Orchid Wing, you will be offered free wifi internet during your stay.
Hi guys, I appreciate your feedback. I have booked the Orchid Family Suite which i guess is in the Orchid wing so hopefully we will get the free Wifi.
While I%26#39;m at it any other inside info about the Orchid resort you could share. We did choose it based on the reviews here and also that they had the 2 room options which fit our budget.
Cheers

We have booked the Orchid Family Suite so hopefully that will include the free Wifi.
While I%26#39;m at it anyone have any inside info about the resort? Restaurants, activities.......
We did choose it based on the great reviews at this site and the fact they had a good offer on a two room suite.
Cheers

Hi Jason,
When are you staying at the Orchid? We were very pleasantly surprised when we returned to Khao Lak in January and crossed over from ';our beach'; at Bang Niang to Khuk Khak Beach where the Orchid is located to find that a number of very simple, very local but very good beach restaurants and bars had sprung up for the Dry Season. However, as it is still mostly a very quiet beach a number had closed down again before we left in April. Also our local DE khaolaker reported that the future of these restaurants was in doubt because of local ';planning'; restrictions.
I hope that is not the case as they were a welcome addition to the beach scene and, hopefully, the ones that were set up by locals from the Khao Lak community will survive and reopen.
Here are some pics from our last stay to whet your appetite:

You can walk down and across the klong (canal/inlet) onto Bang Niang Beach to find other restaurants for lunch or a beer or two but beware of the incoming tide or you may get stranded - and end up having a beer or three! Also not recommended in the dark. Bang Niang is only 10 minutes or so away and Ban La On about 5 minutes further for a wide choice of restaurants, bars and shops.
If you give your stay details I will add them to the KL Calendar and PM a link to it so that you can join in any TA get togethers arranged when you are in KL.
Hi Arandora,
Thanks for your detailed info much appreciated. We will be staying in Khao Lak 12 nights from December 7th.
Cheers
Jason
