Where to stay in Bangkok

Hi! My husband and I will be spending the first week of January in Thailand, splitting our time between Chiang Mai and Bangkok. I am looking for hotel recommendations in the $80-$100 per night range for Bangkok. We%26#39;d like to do some temple tours, enjoy a bit of the nightlife, maybe do a bit of shopping, etc. so I%26#39;d like somewhere that is conveniently located. Thank you!

Anywhere along the skytrain line - lower Sukhumvit, Ploenchit, Siam, Silom. You can check through the reviews of hotels here on TA, then check rates (its peak season remember) on one of the many online booking services like asiarooms.com, agoda.com etc

Also check the ';Top Questions About Bangkok'; on the top right of this page, and the ';Top Questions About Thailand'; on the main Thailand forum page.

I second that! We stayed in silom a few times and liked it (both the montien hotel and then the silom serene which we liked much better) but now favour sukhumvit as it is much more pleasant. Access to a BTS skytrain station is key, for example hotels along soi 3,5,7,7,9 along sukhumvit road will put you close to NANA station. We have stayed in the Bel Aire Princess and it was great but next time will try the Amari Boulevard if the price is right as it is much nearer to the station, and it is so hot to walk very far.

last time we were on a budget and stayed in the royal president- it was okay but not as nice as the other places we have stayed. the big plus point was that if you booked the 2 night package you could check in at 8am, so we could sleep off the jet lag immediately on arrival. We asked to upgrade our room for an extra 300B but it is cheaper to do this on arrival than in advance.

A good tip- try www.latestays.com for good rates if you can bear to wait until a couple of weeks before arrival. Also, sometimes there is a big difference in price if breakfast is included. There are many places to grab breakfast; we liked Foodland (don%26#39;t be put off by the name!) a supermarket on soi 5 which has a lunch counter, like the diners I grew up with in the states, where breakfast will about 100B and you can see them cooking it in front of you. great fun.

Are you sorted out for chiang mai?- we like the centara duangtawan
