Does Bangkok airways still have a monopoly on flights to SR?

Hi all! I am considering flying between Bangkok and Siem Reap to avoid the overland shambles, I%26#39;ve seen a few ads saying that Bangkok Airways%26#39; monopoly on these flights (which makes them so expensive) is ';ending in 2009'; or similar.

Can anyone give me an update on this? Is it true and if so are any other airlines flying this route now or planning to in the near future?

I wouldn%26#39;t hold your breath waiting for Bangkok Air to give up their biggest money spinner, deregulation in slated for 2013 :-/

The overland route wouldn%26#39;t be my choice either, but do note that the road on the Cambodian side has been significantly upgraded, and the trip isn%26#39;t anything like the never ending nightmare it once was.

as Fourb2 states the Bangkok to Siem Reap monopoly will continue for a good while yet. What is ending this year on the 26th October is their agreement to fly the Phnom Penh, Siem Reap route which is being taken over by Vietnam Airways and Cambodian Angkor Air.

I did the road trip in September. The road is excellent all the way allow 6-7 hours including the 1-2 hours necessary to get through the border. You must pick a reputable carrier!!! This is really important. Ours was organised by a tour group so no probs.

Thanks, can you give me the contact details of the tour group you were with?
