Chedi vs Mandarin Oriental

Have 4 nights to spend, which one would you folks recommend with a 2 year old in tow? My husband does think that the MO is way too expensive but then he says that about every hotel I pick:)

Chedi vs Mandarin Oriental

I am currently writing from my balcony at The Chedi. We have not stayed at the MO, but we visited last night for dinner. The grounds at MO are very nice, but it was almost a little too over the top for me. The restaurants are all supposed to be amazing.

Our stay at The Chedi has been phenomenal so far. We booked a Club Suite. The room is beautiful. The resort is beautiful, and we love that it is still within the city. We have been able to walk around and explore very easily. For us, I imagine that we would not have enjoyed the MO as much because of its distance. While The Chedi is literally in Chiang Mai (though not the old city), its setting is quite relaxing and tranquil. Each time I walk from our room, past the pool and into the main lobby, I notice so much detail and am quite in awe of the design. It really is an amazing place.

Either place you choose, you are going to love.

I agree with ';spike';....The MO is quite the place! Very beautiful....and as stated almost ';over the top';. The Chedi is just beautiful, and also much more convenient than the MO. That said however, if you have a little one with you MO does have a ';kids club'; where you can drop your child off and have lunch or a massage alone or whatever. (and just in case you guys are wondering...NO, both of these are way out of my price range for me to do my ';stay for a weekend and check the place out list';) In any case...you couldn%26#39;t go wrong with either of them while here in CM. They both look so charming but I think I%26#39;ll go with The Chedi and to be honest my decision is based on the price. We%26#39;re doing a 12 day trip in all and it would be silly to spend 88000THB at the MO. Would much rather spend less than half of that at the Chedi and have more funds for exploration, shopping etc.

spike5882 - How is the food at the Chedi? And also is it really a couples only place or have you seen any kids around? Thanks guys!

Trust me you will really enjoy the chedi. I had a most wonderful time there in august and as i wrote in a review it is a hotel that is for young and old alike. It is in a word fantastic. I was also thinking of the MO as an option but have absolutely no regrets with the decision I made. Have a wonderful holiday

Thanks Paul! So great to get first hand advice. Also My last experience at MO (in Malaysia) was far from being amazing. They are so consumed with their fabulous properties that the service levels there were horrendous and considering we were there to celebrate my mother%26#39;s 60th birthday, they really messed up everything. also, being from the Middle East, I think our expectation levels are much higher than other travellers and MO really didn%26#39;t impress me....hence very easy for me to drop it off my list and go for Chedi!!
