Now we are back- Part 2

What we did:

Jungle Flight amazing, amazing amazing! Loved by all of us, even tho’ my knees were trembling so much I thought I would fall over and the night before was spent tossing and turning- asking myself why when I am scared of heights would I be silly enough to book this?? Good price through accom (only thing we booked with them). I have read recent posts re this and was really sorry to hear about the # but our experience was vastly different, safe, (we had our 10 yr old), no rushing, smallish group (us plus 4 others), lovely drive up, beautiful location, they say they give back to the village. In the end, knocking knees aside, our only regret was not doing the longer version!

Day Trip arranged with the taxi driver from the airport to drive us around. Mr Manop Siriudom, email nopcm02@hotmail.com, ph 0818851563. Reliable, inexpensive, flexible (stayed with the 10 yr old in car when he was too tired to truly appreciate another gem store/ wood carving etc). Great day, Tiger kingdom (I know, I know I’ve read the posts... perhaps not exactly what wild animals should be doing but hey I love zoos (some) wear leather shoes, eat meat, do dreadful things to the environment i.e. air travel) so, I confess, I loved it and the 10yr old TOTALLY adored it. Ended up there for lunch (fabulous) even the toilets at this place are gorgeous! Snake show (OMG crazy! For a start whilst looking around at end of show the 10 yr old has his fingers stuck through the chicken wire cage, padlock unlocked ...’what’s in here?” .......well actually that would be a King cobra, honey, please take your hands out NOW! Needless to say adored by the kid! Orchid farm - beautiful, Wat Phra Doi Suthep, handicraft places etc. Driver highly, highly recommended very good English, really interesting man.

Cooking Class - Asia Scenic, did the ½ day version, loved it. Mam the instructor is terrific, day fun, food yummy, kid upset cos his curry wasn’t spicy enough! - He totally enjoyed the day. Super

Sunday Market - NOT for the faint hearted! I think we covered about 1/8th in 3.5 hrs!

Night Market – big, busy, hot, fun

Drawing class – for the kid, had to go twice he liked it so much

Massages – Luvly so cheap

Hairdresser – attempted with fear and trepidation after reading previous posts, too busy at home before leaving, became essential when the kid kept saying “Mum you totally need to do something about your hair!” I mean if a 10 yr old boy has issues what was everyone else thinking? Quite hilarious, perhaps a subject for separate post.

Shopping, shopping and mor

e shopping! esp loved Nimmanhaemin road.

Wandering, old city , worrot market, riverside , everywhere, just great

Eating , more about this later.........it seemed like such a good idea at the time, but now, back in the harsh Australian sunlight, the mirror and scales paint a different picture!

Now we are back- Part 2

Hey,

Great report! Soundslike you had a fantastic time. We%26#39;ll be there in Jan for the first time with our 12 and 16 yr old boys - is there a particular reason you chose Jungle Flight over Flight of the Gibbons? I want to pick the best one for the kids.

Cheers

Now we are back- Part 2

Hi Lynn,

Thanks for your trip report, sounds like you all had fun.

Chiang Mai is a wonderful place and we are going back again next year.

Did you manage to get to Baan Tawai Woodcarving and Handicraft Village?

Love to hear about the places you ate at.

Where did you stay?

Cheers,

Stewie.

Lollygobble no real reason we chose Jungle flight as opposed to FOTG, except it was advertised where we were staying for a good price and looked good (they say they contribute funds to the local village, and if its true that was appealing). It was really great.

Stewie, yes a fabulous place, more about where we ate to follow. Thanks for all your help too

Hi Lynne,

Really enjoyed reading your report.

It sounds like you had a wonderful time.

Do you have the info about the drawing class for the ten year old.

We have a twelve year old who would be interested in that.

Caroline.

Hi Caroline,

if you walk towards the old town from the Centara Duangtawan along Loi Kroh (?) Rd there was a fellow drawing with a lesson sign out, about a block from hotel, (so when I say art cless it was more a tutorial I guess. Our little boy loved it, it is pretty casual so in two sessions he produced one pencil sketch and two little pages of different techniques (ie drawing hands/ faces etc)

thanks again for all your help.

Lynne

Thanks Lynn.
